Outdoor Recipe: Grilled Apples

Grilled Apples are a wonderful way to enjoy in season produce and the warming spices of fall. You can serve it as a side, paired with pork and a local cider or top it with vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle for a delicious dessert.

Visit one of the many local fruit orchards in our area to add to the outdoor adventure. Find one close to you or try out one you’ve never visited before. Perhaps you can create a fall family tradition.

Chile’s Family Orchard

Carter Mountain Orchard

Once home with your seasonal bounty, fire up your grill to make Grilled Apples.

Step 1 – Wash apples and slice them about a half inch thick leaving the peel intact. Slicing them allows for more even cooking (you can also grill halved apples. If choosing this variation, grill cut side down first for the same amount of time, however apples may not cook as evenly, depending on the size and type of the apple).

Step 2 – Brush them with the mixture of water and lemon juice to keep them from browning and then lightly spray with cooking spray/butter or oil the grill grates to keep from sticking.

Step 3 – Place the apples on a preheated grill and cook for about 6 minutes on each side. Remove apples from the grill and place on a large dish. Sprinkle them with a mixture of sugar, cinnamon, and salt.

Enjoy the comfort of the season with this apple treat!
