Team Member Spotlight: Ian Hale

Here at Bear Creek, we are privileged to have such a great team of people working for our clients. Once a month we highlight one of our team members so that you can get to know them a little bit better.

This month’s spotlight falls on Ian Hale. Ian joined the Bear Creek team five months ago and works as a Cut Man for the team. Ian is originally from Waynesboro, Virginia and currently resides in Waynesboro with his wife Jessie.

What is your position on the Bear Creek team?

I just got promoted to Cut Man and am currently in training to become a Foreman in the future. I am trying to take everything that I am learning and keep it with me as much as possible.

How did you come to the Bear Creek team?

One day, I was at a local coffee shop (Farmhaus Coffee Co.) when my friend, Blake, introduced me to Brian, who is one of the owners of Bear Creek. One thing led to another, and now I work here at Bear Creek with my friend Blake.

What have been some of your favorite projects to work on and why?

My favorite one would have to be the one in Verona. It was a sunroom addition, and on that particular day I was framing and helping another Foreman, Nick. I liked the community that was formed while working on that job. It was great being a part of something and seeing the big structure come together so quickly. Seeing something built like that is very pleasing and an instant satisfaction.

What are some things you appreciate and value about working with the Bear Creek team?

I appreciate the opportunity to be a leader. Here at Bear Creek, more than anywhere else, we are pushed to be leaders. That is a valuable characteristic that isn’t seen in the workforce very often. I have also seen a lot of grace for people here, which can be a blessing and a curse, I guess. All-in-all, everyone is pretty respectable of each other, which can help you go far here.

When you’re not working with Bear Creek, what do you enjoy doing in your downtime with friends/family?

I try to stay pretty busy. I serve a lot with my local church and in the community. I also try to stay pretty active, so I become involved in new activities all the time. The most recent activity that I’ve been involved in has been running half-marathons. It is not as fun and glamorous as it sounds. It’s actually pretty terrible, but it keeps me active. I have also recently become involved in other activities such as rock climbing, surfing, and skateboarding. I have also just started a YouTube channel, which is pretty fun! I try to keep life interesting at work and away from work.

What are five random facts about you?

  • I have now lived in another country for a cumulative time of one year.
  • I have conquered snow, water, and the concrete jungle on all types of boards; ones with wheels, fins, and a lack thereof (i.e. skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing).
  • I am a musician and can play guitar, bass, guitar, drums, ukulele, and didgeridoo.
  • I love me some good coffee. I am definitely a coffee enthusiast!
  • I think skydiving is boring. The adrenaline doesn’t come from falling out of the sky. It comes from when they open the door in the plane. Once you jumped out of the plane, you’re good.
